Professor Chen Chen is the Professor and Chair of Endocrinology at the University of Queensland, Australia, and a Principal Research Fellow of the Australian NHMRC. He previously led Endocrine Cell Biology at the Prince Henry’s Institute of Medical Research in Melbourne (1999–2007). Dr. Chen earned his medical degree from Shanghai Medical University, an MSc in Physiology from Peking Union Medical College, and a PhD in Neuroscience from the University of Bordeaux, France. He has extensive international research experience in endocrinology and metabolic science.

Dr. Chen's Research focuses on the link of cell biological properties and functions. Functions of cells may be the secretion of hormones in endocrine cells, contraction and dilation of cardiomyocytes, or proliferation and apoptosis of cancer cells. Endocrine hormones are key elements regulating cell functions and also depending on normal cell functions to maintain a normal profile of every hormone.

Professor Griffin is a biomedical scientist with expertise in lipid metabolism, nutritional biochemistry and cardiovascular disease. After his BSc in medical laboratory science (1984), he gained his PhD on the effects of exercise & diet on human plasma lipoproteins at the University of Aberdeen (1988), and undertook postdoctoral research in Pathological Biochemistry at Glasgow Royal Infirmary until 1994. Since then, he has held academic posts as a Lecturer, Senior lecturer, Reader and Professor of Nutritional Metabolism at the University of Surrey. He is a teacher of undergraduate dietitians, biochemists & medical students, and postgraduates in clinical biochemistry and nutritional medicine, and an active researcher in human nutrition in relation to cardiovascular health. He has published widely on the topics of lipids, dietary fat and cardiovascular risk, and has received grants for his research from the Medical Research Council, British Heart Foundation, Department for Environment Food and Rural Affairs, Food Standards Agency and Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council.

Dr. Amandio Vieira is currently an Associate Professor in Nutrition and metabolism research Lab at Simon Fraser University, Canada. Dr. Amandio Vieira completed his B.Sc. from University of Calgary and Ph.D. from University of Alberta. Dr. Amandio Vieira has also published various articles related to his field in a variety of journal.

Dr. Amandio Vieira's research interest includes Nutrition and Metabolism, Dietary Antioxidants and Phytochemicals, Cellular and Nutrient Transport.

Professor Alexandra Kautzky-Willer leads the Gender Medicine Unit and serves as Deputy Head of the Department of Internal Medicine III at the Medical University of Vienna. A specialist in Internal Medicine, Endocrinology, and Metabolism, she is actively involved in several national and international scientific organizations and is President of the Austrian Society of Gender-Specific Medicine. Her research focuses on gender differences in metabolic diseases, including obesity, diabetes, inflammation, and fetal programming. She has authored numerous scientific publications and book chapters.

Dr. Alexandra Kautzky- Willer's research interest includes: Gestational diabetes and fetal programming Gender aspects of obesity Gender aspects of metabolic syndrome Gender aspects of type 2 diabetes Gender aspects of type 1 diabetes/autoimmunity Gender aspects of insulin resistance and beta cell function: Changes in pathogenesis of and interaction with different disease processes Gender aspects of inflammation, adipokines, endothelial dysfunction.

Dr. Jiyoung Lee is currently an Associate Professor at the University of Connecticut, USA. Dr. Jiyoung Lee completed her B.S. (Major in Foods and Nutrition) and M.S. (Major in Food Chemistry) from Kyung Hee University, Seoul, South Korea. In 2002 Dr. Jiyoung Lee completed her Ph.D (Major in Nutrition) from University of Nebraska-Lincoln.

Dyslipidemia and chronic inflammation are major contributors to the development of obesity-associated metabolic disease such as atherosclerosis, insulin resistance, non-alcoholic fatty liver disease, type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular disease. My research focuses on the identification of molecular mediators that are involved in lipid metabolism and inflammatory signaling pathways, and on the elucidation of molecular mechanisms by which dietary factors, such as blue-green algae, berries, and astaxanthin, play regulatory roles in the integration of lipid metabolism and inflammation

Dr. Sayon Roy is a Professor of Medicine in the Section of Diabetes, Endocrinology and Nutrition and Professor of Ophthalmology at Boston University School of Medicine. He earned his PhD from Boston University and completed postdoctoral training at the Schepens Eye Research Institute, Harvard Medical School. An expert in retinal vascular biology, his research focuses on gene regulation in diabetic retinopathy. His work has received major support from organizations including the NIH, NEI, and American Diabetes Association.

Research interest of Sayon Roy include Vascular basement membrane thickening is a prominent and characteristic lesion of diabetic retinopathy. We have hypothesized that excess synthesis of basement membrane components occurring in diabetes is a critical pathogenetic event in the development of vascular basement membrane thickening and complications of diabetic retinopathy. Having shown that the mRNA level of basement membrane components fibronectin and collagen IV are increased in diabetic retinas, our laboratory plans to reduce the synthesis of these basement membrane.

Charles J. Everett, PhD is Affiliate Faculty in the Master of Environmental Studies Program at the College of Charleston.He has published 79 articles and book chapters in the fields of environmental epidemiology, medicine and soil science
